Labour Day...

Well..

Not sure what to say...

Pictures say a thousand words... so here are the pics.

There are more to be posted here later. They are on another camera.

http://picasaweb.google.com/randyserious/FortineLaborDay

We started with a concrete slab...

Saturday we framed the walls, blew up a compressor, bought a new compressor, finished framing the walls, wondered why the second compressor stopped, realized it shipped without oil, borrowed another compressor, checked the oil, raised the first 6 roof trusses, and called it a day.

Sunday we raised the rest of the trusses, sheeted the roof, and started shingling.

Monday we finished shingling and hung the front door.

I'm not much of a general contractor, so we were short of 2 key materials... shingles, and OSB sheeting...

In the end, its done. We all learned alot.

Some stats:

number of wasp stings : 14
number of bottles of water consumed: 60
number of poops in the forest: 2
number of beers consumed: 100
number of games of bowling played: 10
bundles of shingles used: 45
compressors fried: 2
number of people who almost fell off the roof: 3

Thanks to all of the people who gave up their long weekends to come and help me get this wrapped up. Your help is VERY appreciated.

Titan Missle Base anyone?

You can buy anything on EBAY.

If I had an extra $1.5 Million, I might consider having my own missile launching site.

A really, ultra cool paint ball track?

Night club, specialty hotel, secret hideout for my world domination plans!!!!

I love it when a plan comes together

Its not an A-team post. "I pity the fool who..."

There were a few snags getting this thing lined up, but I think that I've finally got it sorted out.

The truss guy bailed on me, and so I had to scramble to find someone to build trusses on short notice. Done. He was more expensive, but they'll be there.

The building materials are ordered, and except for the windows will be delivered the 31stof August.

Friends and family have put their long weekends on hold.

Its going to go like this.

Friday August 31

Head to Eureka early to finalize power installation and make sure the building materials got delivered.

Rent an air nailer

Buy beer, pop, water, snack foods

Site survey to verify concrete is as expected

Check into Hotel in Eureka

Greet incoming help. Eat, drink, be merry.

Sleep.

Sunday bloody Sunday

Nothing much to report today.

Yesterday was pretty good. Replaced a toilet at my mother-in-law's place. Almost finished the deck railing at my place, and spent some time at the fire hall. Monthly SCBA checks, and cleaned W91 Tank. Cleaning trucks isn't usually at the top of my fun list. Yesterday though, I really enjoyed it. It felt good to get a little sweat on.

Called to a car/field fire last night. Turns out one of the guys (who shall remain nameless) at the fire hall had some buddies who were going to donate a car to the kidney foundation. They thought it would be fun to take it for a joy ride first.

They got it stuck, and the exhaust caught the grass on fire. Doh!!

The field they were in is right near a series of coulee's and getting to the thing proved difficult.

Map here

Today, I had a breakfast of egg skillet, and now I'm going to maybe lay on the couch and watch a third rate movie.

Change of dates

I have to reschedule our framing party to the weekend of the 8th,9th, 10th of September.

My parents 40th anniversary party is on the long weekend, and we've got family from far and wide coming. I can't miss it or I'll be dis-owned.

Please re-check your calenders.

We are hoping to get those who are available out there on Friday sometime, and before Sunday at supper time have the roof on, shingled and the windows and doors in.

If you are able to join us, please let me know. I'm booking motel rooms at the Ksanka inn in Eureka for all who can come. Dickey lake and Kookanusa lake are close by for water sports if the kids are interested, and there is a 9 hole golf course at Fortine (6 miles from construction site). If there is someone you know who is dying to come and help, please extend the invitation to them.

I'll leave you to organize your transportation. For those coming from Strathmore, We are taking our SUV, and have room.

We'll do our best to keep you fed and watered while you are there.

Tools I've got:

Dilemma

Well. I've got a pickle.

I've been busy recruiting people to help with framing on the labor day long weekend.

It turns out my siblings have organized a 40 year anniversary party for my parents.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do... Can't be 2 places at once.

Framing... Labor day weekend.

Anyone who is free Labor day weekend is officially invited to come to Fortine Mt. to help me frame my cabin.

Its like this... I need help.

I'll have a concrete slab before too long, and need to turn a pile of lumber and nails into a cabin shell.

Free Labor day?

Let me know.

My baby's on the level

I've been gone a long time...

I almost forgot about you.

I missed you too.

Here's what's been bouncing around in my head this week.
